Dear Mira For those who stop to look

Terms

The terms of your subscription

Last updated 20 October 2026 Draft: to be checked before launch

These terms apply when you subscribe to Dear Mira, or buy it as a gift. We have kept them short and in plain English. Nothing in them takes away the rights you have as a consumer under UK law.

Who we are

Dear Mira is the trading name of Chris Walker, who makes it by hand in Exeter, Devon, and trades as a sole trader. The address for anything formal is in the Contact section at the end. Write to hello@dearmira.co.uk with any question about your order. You need to be 18 or over to subscribe.

The subscription

  • Each envelope holds a letter from Mira, a letter from her uncle Edmund, a natural history postcard and Mira’s field sketch, with your child’s first name on the front.
  • One envelope a month, the same envelope for every subscriber, posted on the first Monday of each month. To be in a monthly post, subscribe by the Sunday eight days before it; if you subscribe after that, your first envelope is the following month’s. Nothing is posted in between.
  • Your first envelope also carries a short note from Mira introducing herself, so a child can start the story in any month.
  • You receive one envelope for each month you pay for.
  • We post to addresses in the United Kingdom only, by Royal Mail. Please allow a few working days for delivery.
  • If you move, tell us before the subscribe-by date and we will post the next envelope to your new address.

Price and billing

  • Prices are in pounds and are shown on the home page. Postage is included; there is nothing to add.
  • Payment is by card, through Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
  • Nothing is charged on the day you subscribe. Your first payment is taken on the first day of the month in which your first envelope posts, or one month after you subscribe if that comes sooner, and the checkout shows you the date before you confirm.
  • Monthly plans are then charged on the same day each month until you cancel.
  • Six-month and twelve-month plans are paid once, on that first payment date. They renew at the end of the period at the same price, unless we have told you of a change at least 30 days before (see Changes to prices) or you cancel before the renewal date. We will remind you by email before a renewal.
  • Founding families pay the founding rate, £6.95 an envelope (£6.95 a month, £41.70 for six months or £83.40 for twelve), for as long as their subscription continues without a break. If you cancel and later come back, the price then shown on the site applies.
  • Gifts are paid once, at the price shown on the home page when you buy. A gift ends after its last envelope; nothing renews.

Cancelling

  • You can cancel at any time, from the Manage your subscription link at the foot of the home page or in your receipt email, or by emailing us.
  • Monthly plans stop at the end of the month you have paid for. Any envelope due in that month is still sent.
  • Six-month and twelve-month plans are paid once. After the first envelope has been posted we do not refund the remaining months pro rata, but every remaining envelope is still sent, and the plan does not renew.

Your right to change your mind

Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 you have 14 days to cancel for any reason. For a subscription of this kind the 14 days run from the day your first envelope arrives. Nothing is posted until the first Monday after you subscribe that you made the cutoff for, so if you change your mind before then, tell us. If you cancel before your first envelope has been posted, or within 14 days of it arriving, we refund everything you have paid.

To cancel under this right, email hello@dearmira.co.uk within the 14 days. A clear sentence saying you want to cancel is enough; if you prefer a form, this will do: “To Dear Mira: I give notice that I cancel my contract for the Dear Mira subscription ordered on [date]. Name, address, date.” We will refund you within 14 days of hearing from you, to the card you paid with.

Gifts

  • A gift is paid once and does not renew. Choose three, six or twelve months: that is the number of envelopes the child receives, posted on the monthly posting dates. The first is the next monthly post you order in time for (by the Sunday eight days before it); otherwise it is the one after.
  • At checkout, tell us the child’s first name and address. If you would like the first envelope posted to you to wrap, email us when you order. Later envelopes always go to the child.
  • If you order after the cutoff for the next post, we email you a gift card to print, so there is something to give in the meantime. For Christmas 2026: order by Sunday 29 November and the December letter, posted on Monday 7 December, is the first; order after that and the first letter posts on Monday 4 January.
  • The 14-day right to change your mind applies to gifts too.

Missing or damaged post

If an envelope has not arrived within ten working days of the posting date, or arrives damaged, email us and we will send a replacement once, free of charge. Please check that the address you gave us is right: we cannot replace an envelope posted to an address that was wrong when it was given.

Changes to prices

If we change the price of a plan, we will email you at least 30 days before the change applies to you, and you can cancel before then. The founding rate does not change while your subscription continues without a break.

The letters and pictures

The letters, sketches, postcard notes, characters and story are written and drawn for Dear Mira and belong to us. They are for your own family’s use: read them aloud to whoever will listen, but please do not copy, share or sell them. The historical plates reproduced on the postcards are in the public domain.

If something goes wrong

We will put it right where we reasonably can, by replacing an envelope or refunding what you paid for it. We are not responsible for delays in the post or for things outside our control, such as postal strikes or severe weather, though we will always do our best. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights.

If Dear Mira changes hands

Dear Mira may one day move into a limited company set up to run it, or pass to someone else who will carry it on. If that happens, we may transfer this agreement, and the details we hold to run your subscription, to the new business. Your rights under these terms, your price and any founding rate stay exactly as they are, and we will tell you by email before the change.

The law that applies

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If we cannot sort out a disagreement between us, it can be taken to the courts of England and Wales, or to the courts where you live if you live elsewhere in the United Kingdom.
